#EndBadGovernance:: Organizers reveals August 1 nationwide Protest details to police chief
Organizers of the August 1 to 10, 2024 nationwide protest in Nigeria have disclosed detailed plans for the demonstration in response to a request from the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun.
Details of the August 1 nationwide Protest, including venues and locations, were outlined in a letter from Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, SAN, attorney for the protest organizers, addressed to the IGP. Adegboruwa also requested the contact details of police officers designated to oversee the protests.
“We act as solicitors to the TAKE IT BACK MOVEMENT, and refer to our letter dated July 26, 2024, and your response dated July 29, 2024, Ref. CJ:2400/IGP.SEC/ABJ/VOL.1/10, which we have passed to our Client with instructions to respond thereto,” the letter stated.
“Our Client acknowledges the commitment of the Inspector-General of Police towards complying with extant legislations granting citizens the right to hold public meetings, rallies, and processions, and the lawful discharge of the obligations placed upon the police to provide adequate coverage and protection at the venues,” Adegboruwa wrote.

The organizers have asked for the contact details of the Deputy Inspectors-General of Police, Assistant Inspectors-General of Police, and the Commissioners of Police designated to cover the events, ensuring a peaceful and crisis-free protest.
The letter also mentioned the intention to update the police with further details over time. Adegboruwa requested that a proposed meeting with the IGP be held virtually to allow for broader participation. He noted that the meeting would be led by Mr. Femi Falana, SAN, alongside the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), other lawyers, and civil society organizations.
The IGP had earlier agreed to provide security for the protesters and invited Adegboruwa to a meeting on Tuesday to discuss further details.
This development comes as last-minute preparations are underway for the hardship protests, which aim to address the rising cost of living in Nigeria.
