Rep. Alhassan Doguwa, Chairman of the House Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream), has called on Nigerians to shun the planned nationwide protest scheduled for August 1, citing ongoing efforts by President Bola Tinubu to address the nation’s challenges.

In an interview with NAN in Abuja on Tuesday, Doguwa emphasized the government’s commitment to resolving the country’s issues.

“President Bola Tinubu is working tirelessly to address the challenges facing our nation and its people,” he said.

Doguwa highlighted that members of the National Assembly, including himself, are engaging with their constituents to discourage participation in the nationwide protest.

“We are reaching out to our local clerics and religious leaders to advocate for peace in the country. We must give the government a chance to succeed for the good of the nation,” he added.

He praised the President for signing the Northwest Development Commission Act into law and noted significant federal investments, such as the N200 billion allocation to complete the Kano Northern bypass and billions spent on the Kaduna-Kano railway line.

Additionally, Doguwa mentioned the N93 billion needed to complete the Kano-Maiduguri Expressway and the N5 billion spent on the Daka Tsalle-Tiga-Tudun Wada-Doguwa Federal Highway.

Doguwa acknowledged the country’s tense state due to the anticipated protests and stressed that no responsible person should support such actions. “Tell our youths that protest is not the way to go. They should pray for their leaders. No responsible person should come out to protest something built on deceit,” he stated.

He recognized the hardships faced by Nigerians and assured that the government is working towards solutions.

“We represent the people and are doing our best to help bring solutions to them. This hardship started almost 16 years ago, and it cannot be solved in just one year. People should not allow themselves to be brainwashed to participate,” Doguwa concluded.
