Emmanuel Amuneke wants to see Nigerian stars as African Best again
There is no shred of doubt that Nigeria has fallen far behind in recent times, and on the football level, it goes without saying that no Nigerian footballer has in years as African Best.
It has either being Egyptian Mohamed Salah, Senegalese’s Sadio Mane or Algeria’s Riyad Mahrez leading Africa across the globe.
For one time African football player of the year, Emmanuel Amuneke, he feels it is enough, and it is high time a Nigerian shows himself at the top level, especially in Africa and the world like the Sadio Mane and Salah.
While speaking in an exclusive chat with Brila, the former Nigerian player revealed what he wanted to see; Nigerian players highly sought after by top clubs.
“Our dream, hope, and belief are to see our players having the opportunity to be considered by big clubs and signed and have the opportunity to play in those clubs.” He said
“In the ’90s, we have our players play at top clubs, we also pray that this new generation will have the opportunity to be able to position Nigerian football and also African football, we have some of the people like Salah and like Mane that has done very well in Liverpool so, we just pray that Nigeria players should have that luck.”
The former Barcelona player also added that Joe Aribo leaving Glasgow Rangers for the English Premier League has a lot of positives behind it.
“Aribo moving from Rangers to Southampton is great, there is no doubt about his ability to adapt to the premier league, that should be a very big stepping stone for him, he should continue to work hard.”
With Emmanuel Amuneke having high hopes for Nigerian football and wishing its stars greater success at top clubs, it is the very hope of every Nigerian to see its stars do well and do Africa proud.
