Election Tribunal nullifies APGA House of Reps Member's victory

The Anambra State Election Petition Tribunal has made a decisive ruling, nullifying the election victory of Hon. Uchenna Eledimmuo, a member of the House of Representatives representing the Nnewi North/Nnewi South/Ekwusigo federal constituency under the APGA (All Progressives Grand Alliance) party.

The tribunal’s verdict, delivered recently, centered on the annulment of votes cast in 8 polling units within Nnewi North Local Government Area due to alleged over-voting.

Consequently, the certificate of return previously issued to Hon. Eledimmuo has been withdrawn, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been directed to organize a bye-election in the affected polling units within a 90-day timeframe.

According to reports from AIF Media, a three-member panel overseeing the tribunal deducted the results of the aforementioned 8 polling units from the total vote count secured by the APGA candidate.

As a result of this deduction, Hon. Eledimmuo now leads his closest competitor, Hon. Uzokwe Peter of the YPP (Young Progressives Party), by a slim margin of just 29 votes.

Following this pivotal tribunal decision, Hon. Eledimmuo is obliged to vacate his seat in the House of Representatives immediately.

This vacancy will persist until the conduct of the bye-election within the specified 90-day period, where voters in the affected polling units will have the opportunity to choose their representative once again.
