Kaduna Assembly recommends investigations into governor El-Rufai’s alleged misappropriation of N423 billion
The Kaduna State House Assembly Committee has recommended a thorough investigation and prosecution of Governor Nasir El-Rufai over allegations of corruption and misappropriation of funds.
The committee made the recommendation after a thorough investigation into El-Rufai alleged corruption and financial mismanagement.
The committee found that Governor El-Rufai was involved in several cases of corruption and misappropriation of funds during his tenure as Governor of Kaduna State.
The committee identified several instances of irregular financial transactions, including the withdrawal of large sums of money without proper authorization, and the award of contracts without due process.
The committee also found that the Governor had breached his oath of office and had failed to exercise due discretion in the administration of the state.
The committee recommended that the Governor be referred to the relevant law enforcement agencies for investigation and prosecution.
The committee’s findings and recommendations are contained in a report dated May 29, 2023, which was presented to the Kaduna State House Assembly yesterday.
The report is based on evidence gathered from various sources, including bank statements, financial records, and testimony from witnesses.
Some of the key findings and recommendations of the committee include:
- The withdrawal of N4,936,916,333.00 by the Commissioner of Finance and the Accountant General of the State between 2019 and 2022 without proper authorization.
-
The payment of $1.4 million USD from the Kaduna State Economic Transformation Account without proper authorization.
-
The award of contracts to companies without due process, resulting in the abandonment of several projects.
-
The diversion of funds meant for execution of projects, resulting in financial losses to the state.
-
The breach of the oath of office by the Governor and failure to exercise due discretion in the administration of the state.
The committee recommended that all parties involved in these irregularities be investigated and prosecuted accordingly.
The committee also recommended that all contracts awarded without due process be reviewed and those found to be irregular be cancelled.
The report is expected to be tabled before the Kaduna State House Assembly soon, where it will be debated and voted on.
If approved, the report will be forwarded to the relevant law enforcement agencies for investigation and prosecution.
It is not yet clear whether Governor El-Rufai will respond to the allegations made against him.
