EFCC staff swear oath not to disclose official documents, information

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) staff on Tuesday swore an oath, pledging not to disclose official documents and information.

The Commission stated in a statement that the oaths were ordered in accordance with the Official Secrets Act and the recently approved Document Classification Policy of the EFCC.

The Act declares that any individual who acquires, replicates or preserves any confidential document which he is not authorised on behalf of the government to acquire, may be guilty of an offence and accountable to conviction.

The EFCC in a statement entitled, ‘EFCC Staff Take Fresh Oath of Allegiance’ which was endorsed by its representative, Mr Wilson Uwujaren, said the staff also swore to carry out their responsibilities thoroughly.

It read in part, “As part of ongoing reform efforts to improve efficient delivery of its mandate, officials of the EFCC today May 18, 2021 took fresh official oaths, pledging among others, to perform their duties diligently and honestly.

“The Chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa, led other categories of staff to take the oath in compliance with the Official Secrets Act and the newly adopted Document Classification Policy of the commission.”

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission was established in 2003 with its head office in Abuja.

The Anti-Graft Agency is charged with the responsibility of investigation and enforcement of all economic and financial crimes laws in Nigeria.

The Chairman of EFCC is Abdulrasheed Bawa.
