Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested a member-elect of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Abdulgafar Ayinla, for alleged involvement in a property scam, forgery and obtaining N26m under false pretenses, TOPNAIJA.NG reports.

Ayinla, who is expected to be inaugurated on May 29, 2019, reportedly confessed to the crime and that he financed his political campaigns with the money.

The acting EFCC spokesman, Tony Orilade, said in a statement in Abuja on Thursday that the suspect promised to pay back when he receives his wardrobe allowance from the Kwara State House of Assembly.

The petitioner, who resides in the United States of America, had alleged that Ayinla, a legal practitioner, was introduced to her by her late aunt as capable of assisting her to purchase some properties in Ilorin.

She told the EFCC, “The lawmaker-elect sold to me two plots of land with a four-bedroom bungalow at window level at the Agric area of Ilorin.

“I paid N8,240,000 commission and Ayinla informed me that the seller had received his money but he never paid the mon to the seller up till now and never refunded the money to me.”

The commission explained that Ayinla would soon be charged to court.
