EFCC Issues Stern Warning Against Obstruction Following Governor’s Intervention in Yahaya Bello’s Case

In response to recent events involving the alleged intervention of Kogi State’s incumbent governor, Usman Ododo, in the case of former governor Yahaya Bello, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has released an official statement.

The EFCC emphasized that obstructing officers of the Commission in carrying out their lawful duties is a criminal offence, as stipulated by Section 38(2)(a)(b) of the EFCC Establishment Act. Offenders risk facing a jail term of not less than five years.

The statement highlighted the increasing tendency of individuals and groups under EFCC investigation to resort to recruiting thugs to obstruct the Commission’s operations. Despite exercising restraint to prevent a breakdown of law and order, such actions are perceived as a sign of weakness.

The Commission unequivocally declared that it will no longer tolerate any attempts to obstruct its operations. Any person or organization found guilty of obstruction will face appropriate punitive actions.
