EFCC Arrests Lady For N21.9m Investment Fraud

Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, on Tuesday, arraigned a woman, Jallaba Mala Bukar, before a Maiduguri High Court over a N21.9m investment fraud, TOPNAIJA.NG reports.

Bukar was arraigned on three counts bordering on criminal breach of trust before Justice Abdullahi Sanya of the Borno State High Court sitting in Maiduguri.

The EFCC charged the suspect after investigations conducted into three separate petitions against her revealed that sometime in 2017 on different occasions, she allegedly fraudulently influenced one Mohammad Nur Alhaji, Hafsat Muhammad and Ba’ana Modu, who entrusted their money to her for investment in a company called Swithgolden.

The victims alleged in their petitions that the money was given to Bukar for investment purposes, but it was instead converted to her personal use and all efforts to recover the money proved abortive.

Bukar, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecuting counsel, Haruna Abdulkadir, prayed the court for a trial date.

Justice Sanya adjourned the matter till April 2, 3 and 4, 2019, for the commencement of trial and ordered that the defendant be remanded in prison custody.
