Nigeria’s electoral governing body, Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, confirms it has distributed all sensitive materials needed for the Edo State Governorship Election.

According to the commission following its meeting in Abuja on Thursday, September 17, all the election materials to be used in the Saturday polls have left the custody of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, in Benin City for the various Local Government Areas.

The development was confirmed in a statement on Thursday by the INEC National Commissioner and Chairman (Information and Voter Education Committee), Festus Okoye, Naija News understands.

Okoye revealed further that members of the National Youth Service Corps and ad hoc staff of tertiary institutions would be used in the Ondo State governorship election scheduled for October 10, 2020

He said, “The commission has made adequate preparations for the Edo State governorship election scheduled for Saturday September 19, 2020. All sensitive materials for the said election have left the custody of the CBN, Benin City for the various LGAs in the state.”

Okoye noted that the NYSC authorities had informed the commission that they were in a position to mobilise more corps members for the Ondo State governorship election.

“After due consideration and to restore the corps members to their role in the electoral process, the commission has decided to allow the recruitment of these additional NYSC members only,” Okoye added.

In another news earlier, Chairman of the Edo State governorship election National Campaign Council, Governor Nyesom Wike, countered former governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu for saying Governor Godwin Obaseki is not a democrat.
