Edo Election: President Tinubu congratulates Sen. Okpebholo

President Bola Tinubu congratulated Sen. Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate who won the Edo governorship election on Saturday.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Okpebholo the winner on Sunday, after defeating other candidates for the position.

Tinubu praised APC national leaders, Edo leaders, and party governors for their hard effort in achieving victory, according to Mr Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy.

The President stated that the result demonstrated the people’s support for the ruling party, progressive principles, economic reengineering, and determination to better Nigerians’ lives.

He advised Okpebholo to view his success as a call to service, rather than a source of pride.

He pushed him to show magnanimity by reaching out to his political opponents and uniting the Edo people to ensure progress.

Tinubu also complimented other candidates who ran in the election for their contributions to the advancement of Nigeria’s democracy, stating that peaceful political competitions like the one held on Saturday portray Nigeria as a stable democracy.

The President advised all individuals who were disappointed by the election results to seek remedy through legal methods.

In addition, the President praised the people of Edo for their orderly and peaceful conduct throughout the election, highlighting the country’s growing democracy after 25 years.

“I commend INEC and our security agencies for working round the clock to conduct a successful, peaceful and largely hitch-free exercise.

“INEC has once again demonstrated that it is committed to organising free and fair election in our country,” Tinubu added.
