Edo election: Buhari congratulates Sen. Monday Okpebholo

Former President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated Sen. Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in Saturday’s Edo governorship election, on his win.

Okpebholo defeated his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) competitor, Asue Ighodalo, in the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) election results announced on Sunday.

Prof. Faruk Kuta declared the results, stating that Okpebholo received 291,667 votes while Ighodalo received 247,274 votes.

Mr Olumide Akpata, the Labour Party’s (LP) candidate, received 22,763 votes and finished third.

Buhari’s congratulatory message described the victory as “historic”.

He hoped the next government would work with everyone to improve democracy and keep the state on track for growth.

He prayed for a new lease on life for Edo State and its people and praised law enforcement authorities for their efforts to guarantee a peaceful election.
