Ed Sheeran sparks Manchester United fan 'hate'

Manchester United fans were left fuming on Sunday afternoon after Ed Sheeran unexpectedly crashed Ruben Amorim’s post-match interview following the Red Devils’ 1-1 draw against Ipswich Town.

In his first match as United boss, Amorim saw his team start strong with Marcus Rashford’s second-minute goal but ultimately share the spoils after a stunning equalizer from Ipswich’s Omari Hutchinson.

The drama, however, extended beyond the pitch when Sheeran, a minority shareholder at Ipswich Town and global music icon, interrupted Amorim’s live interview on Sky Sports.

Host Kelly Cates introduced the singer mid-interview, saying:

“Ed Sheeran has come to join us; we’re just chatting to Ruben Amorim.”

To which Sheeran quipped:

“I don’t think he wants to speak to me. I loved it, I love being back in the Premier League.”

The lighthearted interruption didn’t sit well with United fans, who quickly took to social media to vent their frustration.

One irate supporter wrote:

“I’m honestly a bit aghast at how rude that was from Ed Sheeran. Amorim should have told them all to get f***ed.”

Another tweeted:

“Interrupted the interview and there was no relevance to him doing that.”

Fans also criticized Sky Sports for enabling the incident, with some labeling it “embarrassing” and “disrespectful.”

Ruben Amorim himself appeared visibly irritated by the stunt but maintained professionalism in his response, reflecting on the match:

“They are intelligent and they have to believe in that… Today was not a good result, but we will improve in the future.”

As United shifts focus to their UEFA Europa League clash against Bodo/Glimt on Thursday, fans are calling for Sky Sports to stick to the action on the pitch and leave the gimmicks behind.

Was Sheeran’s cameo harmless fun, or did Sky cross the line? Fans seem to have made up their minds.
