On Thursday, the Ebira people and kinsmen of Shefiat Useni, a ponmo seller, who resided at the Oketoro area of Iyin Ekiti protested her gruesome killing in her room around midnight.

The kinsmen want the suspect arrested by the police in connection with the murder to be handed over to them so that they can mete out jungle justice to him. Sources said the deceased was hit in the head with a pestle and she died on her bed.

One of the sources stated, “Her corpse and the room where she was murdered were drenched in blood as a result of the severe head injury that she sustained in the attack.”

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Sunday Abutu, who confirmed that Useni was murdered in cold-blood, said the incident was being thoroughly investigated by the police.

“We have arrested a suspect in respect to the murder and he is being detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department,” he said.

Meanwhile, two persons, whose identities could not be immediately ascertained, were on Thursday crushed to death by a speeding vehicle in Ado Ekiti.

The crash, which occurred under the flyover between Okesa and the Fajuyi Park, involved a motorcyclist and his passenger, who were crushed by a Toyota Camry car.

Abutu, who confirmed the incident, said the crash occurred at the junction linking the old Governor’s Office, Okeyinmi, and the Stadium Road.

Abutu stated, “A Toyota Camry car rammed into a commercial motorcycle and overran it, leading to the death of the victims.

“The passenger died on the spot and the motorcyclist died while receiving treatment at the Accident and Emergency Ward of the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti. The corpses have been deposited in the EKSUTH morgue.

“We are still investigating the cause of the accident and we charge road users to always exercise caution and watch their actions, while driving or riding on the highways.”
