DSS summons Islamic Cleric, Gumi over banditry comments

The Department of State Services (DSS) has supposedly invited the famous Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, for questioning over his recent remarks during an Arise TV interview asserting that Nigerian soldiers aid bandits’ activities.

Our journalist learnt that Gumi was summoned to the DSS office in Kaduna State, as indicated by the Hausa service of the Voice of America, monitored on Friday.

However, spokesman of the cleric, Tukur Mamu, also in an interview with the VOA, denied the allegation against Gumi, stating that there was nowhere in the TV interview where Gumi categorically accused the entire military.

Mamu declared that Gumi was misquoted by the media.

The spokesman clarified that what Gumi said was that people have been saying and “even the soldiers have been saying that there could be some bad eggs amongst them.”
