Onyebuchi Ezeh, a domestic helper, and two other fleeing suspects are accused of using a sharp weapon to cut some vital organs, including the genitals of a 72-year-old woman at Umunze, Orumba North Local Government Area, Anambra State.
According to report, the septuagenarian was at her home on Thursday when Ezeh brought the two other suspects inside.
While on the premises, the suspects tied down the 72-year-old lady and allegedly used a sharp weapon to slash the woman’s genitals, ear, nipple, and fingers, among other things.
The culprits fled after committing the murder and left the septuagenarian for dead.
In a desperate bid for life, the elderly lady raised the alarm while writhing in agony, and neighbors who heard her cries for aid hurried her to the hospital for medical attention.
Ezeh was eventually apprehended, and during questioning, he admitted that he and his colleagues performed the deed on the orders of a yet-to-be-identified local doctor, who promised to make them wealthy, provided they delivered the requisite organs.
Chidinma Ikeanyionwu, the media assistant to the state Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo, confirmed the development to our correspondent on Sunday, saying the elderly woman was being cared for at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital in the state’s Amaku Awka area.
Ikeanyionwu also said the commissioner had visited the septuagenarian to monitor her condition.
Ikeanyionwu said, “The incident was discovered after the victim raised the alarm on Thursday. One of her workers alongside two other men stampeded her in her house and cut off her genital organs including her nipple, ear, and fingers, among others.
“The culprit, Onyebuchi Ezeh, who was later caught, confessed that they were sent by a native doctor to get the needed organs of the 72-year-old woman in order to become billionaires.
“The suspect hails from Abakaliki in Ebonyi State, and usually helps the victim in cutting palm trees. He was said to have explained that they embarked on the act because they wanted to get rich according to the assurances of the native doctor.”
The Commissioner was said to have expressed sadness about the incident but also reassured the victim that others involved in the crime would be caught and prosecuted.
The suspect is currently in custody at the State Criminal Investigative Department of the Anambra State Police Command in Awka and will soon appear before the Children and Gender-Based Violence Magistrate’s Court in the state.
