Doctors give update on Pope's health following surgery

In a significant update on Pope Francis’s health, his medical team announced on Sunday that his recovery from a recent hernia surgery was progressing steadily. The 86-year-old leader of the Catholic Church underwent a three-hour operation at Rome’s Gemelli hospital on Wednesday, marking another health procedure for the pontiff.

According to the doctors overseeing the Pope’s care, Francis is currently free of fever and has completed the prescribed respiratory physiotherapy. Encouragingly, he even enjoyed a meal with the individuals assisting him in his convalescence, including doctors, nurses, and members of the Vatican gendarmerie.

In light of his ongoing recovery, all papal audiences have been canceled until June 18, allowing the pontiff ample time to regain his strength. However, demonstrating his dedication to his responsibilities, Pope Francis resumed work from his hospital room on Friday, albeit with necessary adjustments to accommodate his recuperation.

The hernia surgery was necessitated by a herniation occurring at the site of a scar from a prior surgical procedure. During Wednesday’s operation, Pope Francis was placed under general anesthesia, and the abdominal wall was expertly repaired using a surgical mesh.

The medical team expressed their satisfaction with the Pope’s progress and his positive response to the treatment. They continue to monitor his recovery closely, ensuring that he receives the necessary care and attention for a full recuperation.

Pope Francis’s health has been a subject of concern in recent years due to his age and various health issues. Nevertheless, his resilience and determination have been evident throughout, as he persists in carrying out his spiritual and pastoral duties. The faithful around the world join in prayer for the Pope’s swift recovery, while eagerly awaiting his return to full health and activity.

As the Vatican updates continue to provide reassurance about Pope Francis’s condition, the global Catholic community remains hopeful and united in their support for their beloved pontiff.
