Dismissed police sergeant arrested for snatching motorcycles

The Police in Bauchi have arrested a dismissed Police sergeant who is a serial motorcycle snatcher.

The suspect, Makama Musa, was a sergeant before his dismissal from the Force.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists in Bauchi on Wednesday evening.

He said that the suspect, a 34-year-old, who hails from Gombe State, was arrested on the 22nd of June.

Although Wakil did not state when the suspect was dismissed from the Force and the offence he committed that led to his sacking, he said he (the suspect) was arrested wearing a Police uniform along Bauchi-Dass Road.

 

He added that his arrest followed a series of complaints from residents of the area.

Wakil, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said, “On the 22nd June 2020 at about 8.30 pm, a Patrol team attached to Yelwa Police Station Bauchi, arrested a serial motorcycle snatcher, one dismissed Police sergeant Makama Musa, Male, aged 34 years of Gombe, Gombe State.

“However, the dismissed sergeant was arrested wearing a police uniform along Dass Road following a series of complaints by the residents of the area. The suspect confessed to the crime.”

The Police Spokesman said that exhibits recovered from him are a Neon blue shirt and black trouser, Device rank of sergeant and Police badge, and a Boxer motorcycle with number plate DBM-319-UR, Bauchi.

He said the Commissioner of Police, Lawan Jimeta, directed that the case be transferred to SCID for discreet investigation after which the suspect would be charged to court for prosecution.
