On March 19, 2023, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Dikko Umaru Radda the winner, with 859,892 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Yakubu Lado, scored 486,620 votes.

The Katsina State governorship election collation officer, Prof Muazu Abubakar Gusau, declared the result, announcing Radda as the winner of the governorship race. Gusau certified the APC candidate as having satisfied the legal requirements and being elected as governor of Katsina State.

The results showed that Radda won in 33 of the 34 local government areas in the state, leaving Lado with only one. The total number of registered voters in the state was 3,516,719, while accredited voters were 1,399,291. The total valid votes received were 1,365,848, with rejected votes of 20,579, while the total votes cast were 1,386,427. Results from 88 polling units were cancelled due to over-voting, violence, and other factors.

Radda expressed his gratitude to the people of Katsina State and his supporters in the APC party. He promised to work tirelessly to improve the state’s economy, create jobs, and provide better services for the people. Dikko Umaru Radda was born on September 10, 1970, in Hayin Gada town, Dutsin-ma local government area of Katsina state. He is currently 52 years old and will be 53 years old by September 10, 2023. Radda is from Katsina State and belongs to the Hausa-Fulani ethnic group. He is married to Hajiya Fatima Dikko Umar Radda.

 

Education

Radda’s educational journey started at Radda Primary School from 1974 to 1980. He later attended Zaria Teachers College from 1980 to 1985. He then proceeded to Kafanchan College of Education from 1986 to 1990, where he obtained his NCE certificate. In 1992, he gained admission into Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University in Bauchi, where he completed his B-Tech.Agric Economic and Extension (Hons) studies. He later obtained his MSC in Agric Extension and Rural Sociology from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria in 2004. Radda returned to ABU Zaria in 2005 to obtain a master’s degree in international affairs and diplomacy. He completed his PhD in Agriculture and Rural Sociology in 2015.

Career

Radda has a diverse career background, which has seen him work as a schoolteacher, banker, and public servant. He worked as a schoolteacher between 1989 and 1999 before joining the defunct FSB World Bank, where he worked as a banker from 1999 to 2003. In January 2005, he was appointed the Chairman of Charanchi Local Government of Katsina State, a position he held until April 2007.

Radda has also held other public offices, including serving as the Senior Assistant to Members of Parliament at the National Assembly in Abuja from 2012 to 2014. He was also the Secretary of Public Welfare (APC) from June 2014 to July 2015. He held the traditional throne of Gwagwar Katsina in Katsina Emirate and was appointed as Chief of Staff of the Governor of Katsina State.

Radda currently serves as the Director General/Chief Executive Officer of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN). President Muhammadu Buhari reappointed him for a second term as the Chairman of SMEDAN in March 2021.

Political Career

Radda formally joined Nigerian politics to seek the seat of Katsina State Governor in the 2023 gubernatorial elections. He contested under the APC party and emerged victorious in the Katsina State gubernatorial primary election, which took place on Wednesday, June 1, 2022.
