Dikko emerges winner of Katsina governorship election
In a closely contested governorship election held on Saturday, March 18, Dikko Umar Radda, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Katsina State emerged as the winner. Radda, a former director of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency, was declared victorious after polling a total of 859,892 votes, which was significantly higher than the 486,620 votes garnered by his closest rival, Garba Yakubu Lado of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Despite the announcement of these results, the official declaration of Radda’s victory is still pending as Prof. Ma’azu Abubakar Gusau, the Returning Officer for the Katsina governorship poll, is yet to make an official announcement. However, it is clear that Radda has secured a significant mandate from the people of Katsina State, and his victory is a testament to his popularity and appeal among voters.
Between 1989 and 1999, he worked as a schoolteacher. From 1999 to 2003, he worked as a banker at the defunct FSB World Bank. He also served as the Chairman of Charanchi Local Government in Katsina State from January 2005 to April 2007.
As a former director of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency, Radda’s victory is a positive sign for the development of small and medium-sized businesses in Katsina State. With his experience and expertise in this sector, it is expected that Radda will prioritize policies and initiatives that will create more opportunities for entrepreneurs and support the growth of small and medium-sized businesses in the state.
