Democracy Day: FG declares Monday, June 14, public holiday, warns against agitations
The Federal Government has declared Monday, June 14 as a public holiday to celebrate Democracy Day of this year 2021.
This is as the government issued a warning against agitations capable of threatening the peace of the nation.
The Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, was cited to have stated this in a statement on Wednesday by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Shuaib Belgore.
Aregbesola appealed to Nigerians to embrace the spirit of brotherliness for peace to flourish in the country.
The Minister urged the citizens to support the present government in its efforts at guaranteeing a united and thriving country.
The statement was entitled, ‘FG declares Monday, June 14, 2021, public holiday to mark this year’s Democracy Day celebration.’
The statement partly read, “The Federal Government, congratulated Nigerians on this occasion and urged all citizens to support the present administration in its efforts at ensuring a united and prosperous nation.
Aregbesola declared that any form of agitation that threatens the unity of the nation should be avoided for the good of all, stating that the space known as Nigeria would be a sanctuary of peace, unity and progress if all citizens love his or her neighbour and adopt the spirit of brotherliness.
It added, “As we mark another Democracy Day in the history of our dear country, let us reflect on the efforts of our founding fathers and ensure that Nigeria remains one united and indivisible entity.
“No development can take place in an acrimonious environment.
“With the challenges we face in Nigeria today, I see an opportunity for us not to break up or break down but to break open; open up to ourselves in truth so that we may appreciate each other, understand each other, honour each other and live together in peace and prosperity.
“There will surely be light at the end of the tunnel.”
