Delta female monarch celebrates 20th coronation anniversary

The Omu of Okpanam/Anioma, HRM Obi Martha Dunkwu, has celebrated her 20th coronation anniversary as monarch of the kingdom.

The female monarch said being an Omu was an act of providence and her activities has caused the Anioma culture to be locally and internationally recognised.

She said, “Being an Omu was not what I dreamt of, but the latter part of my life made me believe that providence has all along prepared me for the seat.

“As a result of my activities, being a media practitioner of close to forty years, the Omu institution has gained local and international recognition.

“We vigorously promoted our native attire (Akwa-Ocha), our language, food and others, to extent that some foreign universities have been coming to understudy the Omu institution for the benefit of research and documentation”.

She disclosed that the Anioma tradition bestowed on her the role of man and a woman put together.

The 2nd Vice Chairman of Delta State Traditional Rulers Council and Obi of Ubulu-Unor Kingdom, HRM Obi Henry Kikachukwu, who led other monarchs at the anniversary applauded Her Majesty for institutionalised Omuship in Anioma.

They extolled the virtue of Omu Anioma for woman development initiative and courage in speaking the truth no matter who was involved.

The traditional rulers described Obi Dumkwu as a promoter of Anioma culture and Omuship.
