A blockade at a military checkpoint of the Murtala Muhammed Bridge Janata, Kogi State left Motorists stranded along the Lokoja-Abuja highway.

According to reports, the blockade was caused by trailer drivers following the death of a conductor who had died allegedly after escaping beating at the hands of military officers stationed at the checkpoint in Jamata community.

It was gathered that the bus conductor had protested the harassment of his driver by the Nigerian Navy personnel after the driver disrupted their barricade.

And while avoiding their wrath, the bus conductor jumped into a deep ditch that ultimately led to his death.

The gridlock is reported to have affected movement to and from Lokoja with transporters complaining about the excesses of security personnel stationed on the highways.

According to motorists, the complaints were that the naval men always demanded bribes from motorists for every good carried through the highway.

The sector commander of Federal Road Safety Corps Kogi State Command, Stephen Dawulung though confirmed the state government organized a negotiation team with the union.
