Culture shock as Yankee boy greets Nigerian King awkwardly

It’s probably a perfect tale of a fish out of the water as a Nigerian boy born in the Yankee returns home to give the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, a very awkward greeting on meeting the King for the first time.

It’s an opportunity that many would crave for to meet royalty, but the boy sure made it look quite awkward without even knowing it.

The boy had returned from the United States and was able to meet the monarch at the airport with the video captured and shared online to spark discussion.

The Olu had arrived at the airport and while walking into the lobby way, a man invited the teenager to meet the monarch.

All who came to meet the Olu knelt down to pay obeisance to the traditional ruler but the boy stretched his hand for an handshake with the monarch much to everyone’s frown.

It surely went against the Warri tradition and culture as it was termed inappropriate for anyone outside of the royal family to either hug or give a handshake to the traditional ruler.

The monarch didn’t pick offence with the reaction as he humored the boy and casually laughed at his ignorance to how their tradition works. The Olu proceeded into conversing with the adults.

Surely, the boy picks no fault in this though, and if any fault were to fall on any, it should be those who hadn’t schooled the boy on the culture and tradition of his people.
