CrowdStrike, the cybersecurity firm responsible for a faulty update that rendered millions of computers unusable worldwide, is attempting to apologize by offering $10 Uber Eats gift cards to its partners.

Several recipients have confirmed receiving the apology cards for the CrowdStrike faulty update, according to TechCrunch.

On Tuesday, a source revealed that CrowdStrike sent an email acknowledging the inconvenience caused by the July 19 incident. The email expressed gratitude and apologies, stating, “Your next cup of coffee or late-night snack is on us!” The email, sent by Daniel Bernard, CrowdStrike’s Chief Business Officer, has also been posted on X (formerly Twitter).

In the UK, the voucher was valued at £7.75, approximately $10. However, by Wednesday, some recipients reported issues redeeming the gift cards, with error messages indicating the vouchers had been cancelled by CrowdStrike.

CrowdStrike has not responded to requests for comment.

The incident began last Friday when a faulty update affected about 8.5 million Windows devices, causing the infamous “blue screen of death” (BSOD) and resulting in significant disruptions worldwide. Airports, hospitals, and numerous businesses were impacted. Read more.

Since the outage, CrowdStrike has been investigating the cause and providing regular updates. CEO George Kurtz and Chief Security Officer Shawn Henry have issued public apologies. Kurtz assured customers of full transparency and commitment to preventing future incidents, while Henry expressed deep regret, calling the past two days the most challenging of his career.
