Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke of the Federal High Court in Lagos has delivered a significant judgment in favor of the Labour Party and five others.

The court has issued an order of interlocutory injunction to stop the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from engaging the services of Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, to distribute election materials in Lagos State.

The plaintiffs filed the lawsuit to challenge the proposed engagement of MC Oluomo-led Lagos State Parks Management Committee or any of its commercial bus drivers to distribute 2023 election materials and personnel in the state. They argued that such a move would politicize the election process and potentially undermine the integrity of the exercise.

In response to the suit, Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke granted an “order of interlocutory injunction” that restrains the INEC from engaging or appointing MC Oluomo-led Lagos State Parks Management Committee or any of its commercial bus drivers to distribute 2023 election materials and personnel in Lagos State.

While the substantive suit is still pending, this decision is expected to prevent any actions or steps that could undermine the credibility of the election process in Lagos State. The court’s decision underscores the importance of upholding the rule of law and the judiciary’s role in ensuring that the electoral process is free and fair.

The decision by Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke is also a reminder that every vote counts, and the people’s democratic will should not be compromised by any external influence. We must strive to ensure that our electoral processes are free, fair, and credible to sustain our democracy and promote good governance.
