Court remands Monarch for “conspiracy” “cultism” in Rivers

The paramount ruler of Kono Boue community, His Royal Highness, Taalor Nwidea Tornwe has been remanded at the Port Harcourt Correctional Center on a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy and cultism by a Magistrate Court sitting in Port Harcourt

The presiding Chief Magistrate, Amadi Nna did not allow the charges to be read against the accused following the nature of the case and thereby declined jurisdiction of the matter.

Chief Magistrate Nna also refused the bail application by the defense counsel after it was also opposed by the prosecution counsel from the office of the Attorney General of the state.

The Chief Magistrate thereafter ordered that the case file be sent back and encouraged the defense counsel to approach the High court for the bail.

According to the charge sheet, the paramount ruler is accused of conspiring and sponsoring a cult group.

Kono is a village in Rivers State, Nigeria. It is situated on the coast in Khana Local Government Area, about 45 miles (72.4 km) from Port Harcourt. The dialect spoken in Kono is Khana, and the people are Ogoni. Former Footballer Joseph Yobo was born and grew up in Kono.
