COOU earns over N1.5 million from vegetable sales in 3 months

Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) in Igbariam, Anambra State, has generated over N1.5 million from vegetables sale in just three months, according to the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kate Omenugha.

Speaking at an organisational review meeting at the university’s Senate Chambers on Thursday, Omenugha emphasized the university’s commitment to diversifying its income sources, particularly through agriculture.

“We made over N1.5 million profit from vegetables sale from the school farms in three months,” she noted, highlighting the institution’s focus on self-reliance.

Omenugha also expressed her vision for the university to become a leading educational institution in the South East of Nigeria and beyond.

She urged the staff to adopt a private sector mentality to transform the university into a prestigious center for learning. “We don’t want to be just a factory producing graduates; we aim to be a centre of excellence,” she said.

Additionally, she encouraged the recipients of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund Institutional-Based Research project to aim for publication in prestigious global journals. Assuring staff of her commitment to their welfare, she called for hard work, dedication, and adherence to university regulations to enhance service delivery.
