Cole Palmer reveals real reason behind Chelsea move

Chelsea summer signing, Cole Palmer who has been likened by the Chelsea fanbase as a renewed Kai Havertz, has opened up on his motivation for making the surprising move to West London.

The Manchester City academy graduate had played key roles in the City squad going into the 2023-24 seasons, with his 2 vital goals against Arsenal and Sevilla in the Community Shield and UEFA Super Cup being key to forcing crucial penalty shootouts after full-time.

Although the Cityzens went on to loose on penalties to the Gunners prior to the start of the season, Manchester City had a reversal of fortune against Sevilla in the Super Cup.

Cole Palmer afterwards made a shocking move over to Stamford Bridge ahead of the deadline day of the Premier League summer transfer window, taking even the Chelsea fandom by surprise.

According to Palmer who gave an honest opinion regarding his move to West London after England Under 21 side’s victory over Luxembourg, he explains the transfer was motivated due to wanting more first-team opportunities.

“I’m not saying I shied away from the competition (for places at Man City) because I have never done that,

“I’d been there (around the first team) for a few years and wanted more of an opportunity to play – in my position and to have more of an impact.” Cole Palmer was quoted as saying.

“It was a huge decision [moving to Chelsea]. When I left the training ground on Thursday I knew I was going to London the next day,” he added.

“It all just hit me, sat in the car and going to drive out. I was just thinking, “you’ve been here 15 years”.

“I don’t know any difference. I have never been on loan. I have never moved out of Manchester.

“The only time I have ever been outside of Manchester is on holiday or away games. Going there does feel weird, but there is no time to waste. I have got to get to it.”
