Clubs never Above our flags---Aliou Cisse blasts Napoli President

Club badges never above our country flags, Senegal coach, Aliou Cisse blasts Napoli President over AFCON comments.

If there is one man that has received quite the backlash over his recent statement, it is the Napoli President, Aurelio de Laurentiis.

And now, his latest critic happens to be current African nations cup winning coach, Aliou Cisse, who doesn’t take it lightly with the Italian’s remark over the African tournament and his statement on placing an embargo on African players unless they sign deals that prevents them playing at the AFCON.

The Senegal coach in his response challenges the Aurelio de Laurentiis to try not to recruit African players for the world to see, with Aliou Cisse remarking:

“A football player can play for 12 teams, say, but will only have one national team,

“Clubs will never be above our flag and our national teams. And every Senegalese who plays in Europe, wherever he will be, if he is competent I will call him to defend the colours of the nation.” ” Cisse said while speaking to BBC Sport Africa.

“I have a lot of respect for (De Laurentiis) but I challenge them to try to not recruit African players.” He added.

Laurentiis while speaking with Wall Street Italia, said to the press regarding African players:

“I love them but either they sign a waiver and pull out of playing in the AFCON because otherwise between the AFCON and the Copa America (players) they’re never available. We are the suckers who pay their wages…”
