Pop singer Ciara has showed her massive pride and support for her husband, Russell Wilson, who on Tuesday became the highest-paid player in the National Football League (NFL).
Wilson, 30, reached an agreement with the Seattle Seahawks for a four-year contract extension. He’d receive a $65 million signing bonus alongside his $140 million salary. The 33-year-old “Level Up” singer shared her excitement about Wilson’s accomplishment via Twitter on Tuesday.
“Soooo proud of my love @DangeRussWilson,” Ciara tweeted. “So excited Seattle is home! God is so good. The hardest working man I know! You inspire me so much! #GoHawks @Seahawks.”
Representatives for Ciara did not immediately provide comment to Newsweek and Russell’s rep declined to comment, but the couple—who tied the knot in 2016—shared a video to Twitter and Instagram about the athlete’s career achievement. “Hey, Seattle. We’ve got a deal,” Wilson began as Ciara giggled.
“Go Hawks,” the singer said. Wilson continued, adding: “Go Hawks. But, imma see ya’ll in the morning. Time for y’all to go to bed.”
Russell Wilson is a quarterback for the Seahawks. He began playing for the Seahawks in 2012, when was first drafted to play in the NFL as a third-round pick. Before embarking on a career as a Super Bowl-winning football player, Wilson was drafted by Major League Baseball (MLB) in 2010 to play for the Colorado Rockies. Wilson’s father is former multi-sport star athleete and college basketball coach Harrison Wilson III. He grew up in Richmond, Virginia.
Wilson’s new Seahawks deal pushes his annual salary past that of Aaron Rodgers, who previously enjoyed the title of highest-paid NFL player. Beginning in 2013, the Green Bay Packers quarterback was given a five-year contract with a salary of $110 million.
In 2016, Forbes reported that Wilson’s net worth stood at $42 million.
“To Mark Rodgers @JohnMarkRodgers my agent & father figure… You believed in me 10 years ago when no one else would,” Wilson tweeted Tuesday after his new agreement was announced. “Thanks for being who you are as a man and friend. You are the best in the game. #FootballandBaseball.”
