Christopher Nkunku Won't Be Playing In The World Cup After Sustaining Injury In Training

French professional footballer, Christopher Alan Nkunku has confirmed his absence from the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, after suffering a leg injury during training.

The RB Leipzig forward, Christopher who was training alongside his teammates, suffered a twisted leg injury while handling the ball with Eduardo Camavinga during Tuesday’s session.

The pain was severe that he had to exit the training field for immediate treatment.

Shortly after this, France announced that he would be prevented from partaking in Qatar because of the injury sustained.

A statement released by the French national team read;

Injured in training, Christopher Nkunku must give up participating in the World Cup. The whole group shares Christopher’s sadness and wishes him a speedy recovery.”

The incident is a significant blow for his club, Les Bleus, who had also ruled Paul Pogba, N’Golo Kante, and Presnel Kimpembe out of the tournament in Qatar. Nkunku has been in splendid form for club side Leipzig this season too, scoring 12 times in 15 Bundesliga appearances.

Due to Nkunku’s injury, France is permitted to call up a replacement before their first game against Australia on November 22.

Eintracht Frankfurt forward Randal Kolo Muani is reportedly the favorite to replace the RB Leipzig star.
