Chelsea vs. Sheffield United: Will the Blues win?

Can the London Blues overcome a very familiar foe at Stamford Bridge?

Chelsea versus Sheffield United at Stamford Bridge, on a normal day should be a no brainer in seeing the West-London side as obvious favorites going into the game, but on current form, the Blues are that team no one knows what to expect from until the full 90 minutes.

The home side so far in their last 4 fixtures have conceded 10 goals, winning just 1 game against Roberto Di Zerbi’s Brighton and Hove Albion.

Their recent 2-0 defeat to relegation struggling Everton complicates whatever opinions punters may have in classing Chelsea as favorites despite them being home to the visiting Blades.

For one, they face a very familiar foe in Chris Wilder who had a very favorable 2019/20 season against the Blues, stealing a win and a draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. And taking into context the reality that the Blues struggle against low block teams, presents another dilemma for a Mauricio Pochettino side looking to climb further up the premier league table.

So far, the West-London team have won just 5 premier league games this season in 16 games, securing courageous draws against tougher opponents like Manchester City, Arsenal, and Liverpool but making it a contrast of fortunes against the lower teams.

Currently, Sheffield United are head stuck in the bottom of the league table, with just 2 wins and 2 draws, and 12 defeats in 16 games, a tie against Chelsea presents an opportunity for the Blades to improve on their fortunes, with their recent 1-0 win against Brentford a confidence booster on their road to the Capital.

With Chris Wilder, there will be no taking of prisoners, and if a job is to be done at Stamford Bridge, the manager will want to see the end of it.

However for Mauricio Pochettino, this game is all about returning to winning ways and nothing, considering how any other alternative outcome, results in more questions from the media on Chelsea’s transfer activity, both past and present.

On the plus side, Christopher Nkunku is back for the Blues, alongside Romeo Lavia.
