Chelsea vs. Real Madrid again? The Champions League Draw

The grand club football tournament is almost upon us as the Champions League is gearing for a return soonest in September before the World Cup commences.

But before its return, a round up of Champions League qualifiers had to be played amongst lesser of Europe’s coefficient clubs to decide who gets a berth into the group stage.

Benfica played theirs against Ukrainian side, Dynamo Kyiv on Tuesday qualifying ahead of Kyiv on a 5-0 aggregate score line.

The final round of qualifiers takes place today, Wednesday in view of the group stage draws being announced on the 25th of August, which is tomorrow.

Chelsea vs. Real Madrid again? The Champions League Draw

Last season’s edition, saw Real Madrid earn their 14th UEFA Champions League title when they defeated English side, Liverpool at the final in Paris, and this rightly places Real Madrid in the first Pot (Pot 1 of the draws).

Of course, without them even winning the Champions League also places them in Pot 1 considering they too are champions of their national league, La Liga, which applies for other Champions of Europe’s top leagues and Europa League winners.

English clubs last season had quite a good run in the competition though, prior to ultimately falling to the eventual champions, Real Madrid.

With the draws set for a 5 PM announcement that will be televised live from Istanbul, Turkey which coincidentally is where the 2022/23 final will be held.

Of course, the ground which the final will be held, the Ataturk Olympic Stadium, is most famous for one of the best UEFA Champions League final in recent memory, which was between Liverpool and AC Milan in 2005.

With Jurgen Klopp promising to be there again with Liverpool, he could look to create history should the German make it that far into the final let alone should he win the competition.

With Chelsea and Liverpool both in Pot 2 of the draws, both clubs stand a chance of revenge should the competition pit them against current Champions, Real Madrid.

Of course, it will be quite the exciting draw for fans and the football enthusiasts which of course, will garner viewership on the night.
