Chelsea vs. Liverpool: Caicedo derby ends on a predictable note

The American derby, the Caicedo derby, the top 4 chasers or the game of the season, Chelsea vs Liverpool lived up to its hype as it gave fans whatever their money paid for on a Super Sunday.

Prior to the game, a lot of narratives were going for it in terms of the transfer saga that had strangely dragged 3 unlikely subjects together in the quest for Moises Caicedo.

It began when Liverpool stole into the night and negotiated a bid with Brighton for the Ecuadorian behind the back of Chelsea and its hierarchy for what was a British transfer record.

The Ecuadorian, like a lady who was chased through the night by an interested suitor, albeit behind her knowledge, turned the clocks on Liverpool to reject whatever offer they had offered, in favor of her first love, Chelsea.

Moises Caicedo in a saga that surprised many, turned down a move to Anfield, leaving the Reds hanging on to hope as the two suitors got into a clash that was fitting to be played in front of all spectators on field.

The Sunday fixture started with Liverpool looking to be domination, drawing out the Chelsea from all flanks in attack to stage a stunning opener through Liverpool’s number 7, Luis Diaz for the game’s first blood.

It was a well worked team effort that began with a cross from Dominik Szoboslai to Mohamed Salah and to Luis Diaz in the first half of play.

Mohamed Salah followed through on goal for what could have been the 2-0 deficit, just to have his premier league record chalked off for an off-side call.

It looked like the game was going in favor of the Merseyside visitors until a defensive mishap led to Chelsea’s Axel Disasi following through to net the equalizer shortly after Mohamed Salah’s goal was chalked off for offside.

The Blues’ Ben Chilwell looked to have put Chelsea up ahead minutes after just to have his goal fall to the Mohamed Salah fate and be chalked off for off-side.

A tense fixture followed with both sides learning their lessons in defense and attack to drag out an eventual predictive conclusion of a 1-1 stalemate.
