The Russia-Ukraine war has been a conflict that in football has impacted Chelsea a lot as a club, in that its owner then was Russian and a close friend of Russia President, Vladmir Putin. And as a result the so many sanctions placed on Russia and Russian oligarchs were some how bound to affect Roman sooner.

It did, and it forced the Russian billionaire into selling a club he had cherished, prematurely. The drama had left Chelsea though an English club, a casualty of war as the UK government placed on the club sanctions which though had been lessened till the club got new owners.

And as it stands, Chelsea can officially confirm its new owners as the club have reached an agreement with a group led by Todd Boehly, Clearlake Capital, Mark Walter and Hansjoerg Wyss to acquire it.

Of the investments being put into the club, it is said a sum of 2.5 billion euros will be applied into the actual purchase of the Club’s shares which will be deposited into a frozen bank account in the UK with the intention being to donate 100% for charitable causes as confirmed by former owner, Roman Abramovich.

In addition, further sums will be committed into the Club by the new owners to invest in the Academy team, the Women’s team, the stadium itself and the Chelsea foundation, with a grand total of 1.75 billion Euros as investment.

The sale is said to be finalized in late May pending approvals from statutory bodies. As it stands, a new era begins at Chelsea.
