Chelsea set for another transfer drama again

Chelsea and Manchester City are reportedly set to compete for the signature of Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa this summer.

Reigning Premier League champions Manchester City are aiming to bolster their squad further as they pursue a fifth consecutive league title.

Despite already having Ederson and Stefan Ortega as their goalkeeping options, City may need to address this position due to reported interest in Ederson from the Saudi Pro League. While City have offered Ederson a new contract, his potential departure could prompt manager Pep Guardiola to target Costa as a replacement.

Journalist Rudy Galetti reports that Manchester City’s interest in the Portuguese international is contingent on the outcome of Ederson’s situation, with a move likely to be pursued after Euro 2024.

Diogo Costa, 24, has established himself as one of the world’s top goalkeepers and is expected to be Portugal’s first-choice keeper in Germany this summer. His impressive distribution skills are particularly appealing to City, fitting well with Guardiola’s playing style.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are also vying for Costa’s signature. Despite having goalkeepers Djordje Petrovic, Robert Sanchez, and Kepa Arrizabalaga under contract for next season, the Blues are looking to strengthen their goalkeeping options. Chelsea have reportedly already approached Costa to discuss personal terms.

Costa could become one of the first signings under new manager Enzo Maresca, with Chelsea having agreed to a five-year deal to appoint the Italian, pending compensation to his current club Leicester City.

The battle for Costa’s signature is shaping up to be one of the summer’s major transfer stories as both Premier League giants seek to secure one of the top goalkeepers in the game.
