Chelsea: Raheem Sterling, 3 others face uncertain future
Current development at Chelsea has seen Raheem Sterling left out of the club’s squad for their upcoming Europa Conference League clash against Swiss side Servette, fueling speculation about his future under new manager Enzo Maresca.
The omission comes hot on the heels of Sterling being surprisingly benched during Chelsea’s Premier League opener against his former club, Manchester City.
The exclusion of the England international, who has been a mainstay since his £50 million move from Manchester City in 2022, has raised eyebrows and cast doubts over his standing within the team. Sterling’s representatives have already expressed their concerns, demanding clarity from the club regarding his role going forward.

Chelsea: Enzo Maresca explains reason for Sterling snub
Sterling isn’t the only one facing uncertainty. Defenders Ben Chilwell, Wesley Fofana, and Tosin Adarabioyo were also left out of Chelsea’s A-list submitted to UEFA. Chilwell, who captained the Blues last season in Reece James’ absence, is likely sidelined due to illness, while Fofana’s injury woes and Adarabioyo’s recent arrival have kept them out of the squad.
With Chelsea aiming to qualify for the Europa Conference League group stages, the snub could be temporary, but the message from Maresca is clear: no one’s spot is guaranteed. Whether Sterling and his sidelined teammates make a comeback or continue to fall out of favor remains to be seen.
