Chelsea Let Down Aubameyang In Front Of Arsenal—Blues Legend

The Super Sunday fixture against Arsenal at the Stamford Bridge was a tough one to swallow for Chelsea fans and of course, former Arsenal player, Pierre Emerick Aubameyang.

It was a game that left all blue bloods crawling back to their caves in humiliation with the London derby going wrong for Chelsea after a disaster class display to gift the Gunners enormous 3 points to profit their bid for the Premier League title.

For Chelsea legend, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, he claims his former club let down current striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang partly due to the inactions of his teammates during Sunday’s Premier League 1-0 defeat to Arsenal.

The derby resulted in the former Gunner, Aubameyang making just eight touches in the 64 minutes he played for Chelsea against Arsenal before he was ultimately replaced by Armando Broja in the second half.

According to Hasselbaink, there were a few instances throughout the game when Aubameyang made a strong run but was unable to receive the ball.

He emphasized that if Kai Havertz had not passed the ball to an open area in the first half, the former Barcelona attacker might have had a good chance.

“We were talking about Aubameyang’s having only scored one goal [in the league] so far,” Hasselbaink told Premier League Productions.

“But he [did] everything right [in the game against Arsenal]. He was in the middle of the goal, he stopped and checked.

“He only needed that yard, that yard that [Manchester City’s Erling] Haaland gets. But his [Haaland] teammates find him, and he just has to find the corner [of the goal]. That’s the difference.”

The London derby was a widely talked about one heading into the Super Sunday, with the narratives on Aubameyang returning to face against his old club.

For one, every Arsenal fan prior to the game dreaded the Gabon international having a good game and scoring to haunt his former club’s title bid after things had gone sour in his relationship with the club last year.
