Chelsea Legend Set To Join Gareth Southgate In Coaching Job

Former Chelsea striker, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, is set to join the coaching staff of the England national team, led by Gareth Southgate. The Dutch footballing legend will replace Chris Powell, who has left his position to focus on his role as head of coaching at Tottenham Hotspur’s academy.

Hasselbaink is expected to bring a wealth of experience to the England setup, having enjoyed a glittering career as a player with various top clubs in England and Europe. He is most famously known for his time at Chelsea between 2000 and 2004, where he netted an impressive 87 goals and registered 24 assists in 177 matches.

TalkSPORT reports that the former Netherlands international will join Southgate’s coaching staff ahead of the upcoming World Cup qualifiers, which will see England take on San Marino, Albania, and Poland in March.

Powell had been a part of the England coaching staff in the last two major tournaments, but has now decided to step down to focus on his role at Tottenham’s academy. Hasselbaink is expected to bring fresh ideas and a new perspective to the team, and his experience as a top-level player is sure to be an asset to the squad.

It is not yet clear what specific role Hasselbaink will play within Southgate’s coaching setup, but his appointment is sure to excite England fans who will be hoping for success in the upcoming qualifiers and the Euros later this year.
