“Chelsea is Osimhen’s childhood club” — Mikel Obi leaks
It isn’t the kind of news that Victor Osimhen wants to let out at the stage of his career but Mikel Obi has revealed the club the Nigerian grew up supporting as he exposes why the Osimhen’s move to Chelsea failed.
The former Chelsea star John Obi Mikel in a new episode of his podcast, revealed how close the club came to landing Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen in a blockbuster deal before it dramatically fell apart at the last minute.
Speaking on his Obi One Podcast, Mikel disclosed key details behind the failed transfer, citing paperwork delays and the inability to complete a medical as critical factors that halted the move.

“We were very, very close,” Mikel admitted, emphasizing how both Chelsea and Osimhen were eager to finalize the deal. According to Mikel, the club’s ambitions and Osimhen’s desire to join the Blues aligned perfectly, but time ran out as last-minute issues proved insurmountable.
The former Chelsea midfielder explained that negotiations reached a compromise, with both sides pushing hard to get the deal over the line. However, minor issues with paperwork and medical evaluations caused the deal to fall through, leaving Osimhen disappointed as the clock ran out.
Despite the collapse, Mikel hinted at a possible resurgence in talks, saying the door could reopen for a January move, as Chelsea remains keen on bringing the striker to Stamford Bridge.
The near-miss left fans buzzing, with many wondering if Chelsea will return for Osimhen and whether the January window could finally see the prolific Napoli striker donning a Blue shirt. Will Chelsea reignite their pursuit, or will they miss out again on one of Europe’s top talents?
John Mikel Obi also debunked the popular theory that Victor Osimhen did not fancy the move to West London. In the podcast, the ex-midfielder says:
“I know a lot of people say, ‘Oh, Victor Osimhen didn’t want to come to Chelsea.”
“That’s not true. Victor really wanted to come to the club, because he still knows he has a lot to prove in Europe. He wants to come to Chelsea. He wants to come in and help the club to get back to where we should be. He knows he can score a lot of goals in the Premier League, and what a better place to do that than his childhood club Chelsea.”
