Chelsea fans come for Antonio Rudiger after UEFA Super Cup win
It is safe to say that Chelsea fans haven’t quite gotten over Antonio Rudiger leaving, and they were on hand to make such sentiments known immediately after Real Madrid’s Super Cup victory against German side, Eintracht Frankfurt.
Antonio Rudiger’s only sin in the match for the Chelsea faithful was that he began the game as a benchwarmer, a fact they did not fail to let the German international know.
The former Chelsea defender began the Super Cup game as a spectator before being given the time to enjoy a short cameo as Real Madrid began the season with a trophy in Helsinki.
Rudiger last played for Real Madrid in a pre-season friendly loss to Barcelona, playing in quite an unnatural position than he was used to at Chelsea, playing at left-back.
In the victory to Eintracht Frankfurt, the Europa League champions, he came into the second half as Carlo Ancelotti preferred his starting XI that won the Champions League.
This time, the Los Blancos won with a 2-0 score line with goals from David Alaba and Karim Benzema in both halves of the game.
Antonio Rudiger called his time at Chelsea off after he left on a free transfer to the Santiago Bernabeu during a time of uncertainty at Chelsea.
During that period, Rudiger saw himself as one of Chelsea’s most consistent players, leading to his exit being felt by fans hence the trolling that came when he started on the bench in the Super Cup.
To the Blues fan base, they feel the German is in for a long run as Real Madrid manager, Carlo Ancelotti may prefer to rely on a much different backline partnership that may not grant Rudiger many chances.
For the fandom, it is all about ‘I told you so’, and for now, they have began telling their former hero, ‘I told you so’.
