Chelsea eye Real Madrid swap deal

Chelsea are exploring a blockbuster swap deal with Real Madrid. The proposed move would see Kepa Arrizabalaga heading to Los Blancos in exchange for Andriy Lunin, according to sources from Spanish publication AS.

With the Premier League opener against Manchester City looming, the Blues are keen to strengthen their squad, particularly between the posts. Although Robert Sanchez is tipped to start the season as Enzo Maresca’s number one, the club is actively seeking additional options to bolster their goalkeeping department.

Chelsea’s search has seen them linked with several names, including Villarreal’s Filip Jorgensen and Valencia’s Giorgi Mamardashvili. However, the potential acquisition of Lunin from Real Madrid has emerged as a top priority.

Real Madrid's Andriy Lunin added to Chelsea's list of goalkeeper targets

Kepa, who spent last season on loan from Chelsea at Real Madrid, is reportedly willing to take a pay cut to become Thibaut Courtois’ understudy permanently. This development could pave the way for Lunin’s move to Stamford Bridge, addressing Chelsea’s need for a goalkeeper who excels with the ball at his feet—an essential trait for Maresca’s playing style.

Maresca commented on the club’s transfer plans following their recent clash against Wrexham: “When the transfer window is open, anything can happen for us and for the rest.” He praised Robert Sanchez’s performance but acknowledged the importance of having a reliable shot-stopper who can contribute to their build-up play.
