Chelsea Coach, Graham Potter On Players Fit For Leeds Clash
Chelsea manager, Graham Potter, has given updates on the fitness of several key players ahead of their Premier League tie with Leeds United on Saturday. Speaking at his pre-match press conference on Friday, Potter provided updates on Thiago Silva, Edouard Mendy, N’Golo Kante, Mason Mount, Reece James, and Cesar Azpilicueta.
According to Graham Potter, Thiago Silva is nearing a return to action, but couldn’t provide an exact timeline for the defender’s recovery. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Edouard Mendy is making progress in his rehabilitation, but it remains unclear when he will be fit to play again.
Potter also provided an update on N’Golo Kante, who has been struggling with a fitness issue, stating that the midfielder took part in his first full training session on Friday. However, Potter indicated that Kante will still need more time to regain full fitness.
Unfortunately for Chelsea, Mason Mount has been suffering from a lower abdomen issue and will not be available for the match against Leeds United on Saturday. Reece James, who has been an integral part of Chelsea’s defence this season, is also doubtful for the game. The defender is currently being assessed for tightness in his hamstring, and his availability for the match remains uncertain.
Finally, Cesar Azpilicueta has made progress in his recovery from a head injury but is still going through protocols before he can return to the pitch.
Potter said, “Mason has had a problem with a lower abdomen area and tomorrow is too soon for him. Reece has a tightness in his hamstring; we are assessing him, but he is doubtful for tomorrow as well. Azpi has made progress but is not through protocols after a head injury like that.”
Chelsea will face Leeds United at Stamford Bridge, with kick-off scheduled for 4 pm. The Blues will be looking to extend their unbeaten run in the Premier League and consolidate their position in the top four of the table.
