The chaos erupted in the players’ family section, with disturbing footage capturing Nunez scaling railings to confront Colombia fans, as his teammates and security personnel struggled to hold him back. The incident has sparked widespread concern and condemnation, with Sky Sports News reaching out to Liverpool and Nunez’s representatives for comments.

Uruguay’s Luis Suarez, speaking about the ordeal, said,

“Obviously, if someone is attacking your family, you want to go and defend them, but that doesn’t justify the image it created. We had to protect our families. There were a lot of children of my teammates trapped, and things were falling on them. You felt helpless.”

Defender Jose Gimenez painted a grim picture of the situation, telling FOX Soccer, “They stormed all our families, a section of Colombia fans. This is a disaster. Our family is in danger.”

CONMEBOL swiftly condemned the violence, emphasizing that soccer should be a unifying force. “Our work is based on the conviction that soccer connects and unites us through its positive values.

There is no place for intolerance and violence on and off the field,” their statement read. “We invite everyone in the remaining days to pour all of their passion into cheering on their national teams and having an unforgettable party.”

The intense semi-final saw Colombia clinch victory with Jefferson Lerma’s first-half goal, despite playing the entire second half with 10 men following Dani Munoz’s red card in first-half stoppage time. Colombia will now face Argentina in what promises to be an electrifying final on Monday.
