Champions League Final Preview: Man City vs. Inter Milan

The Champions League season ultimately comes to a close tonight with a final set in the historic Istanbul city between Premier League club, Manchester City and Serie A club, Inter Milan.

As reminiscent of the 2005 spectacular final that ironically took place between a premier league club and a Serie A club also of Milan, this sets same tone albeit with the absence of the two teams whose home shirt color has red on it.

This time around, Istanbul brings together the blue sides of Manchester and Milan to hostilities as both teams are set to make history in the tournament.

2005’s edition of the Champions League final was famously marked by the excitement that was a miracle many did not see coming as AC Milan saw a 3-0 lead against Liverpool squandered in just 6 minutes to force in an extra time debacle that ultimately saw Liverpool steal the glory in the penalty shoot out, thanks to the heroics of Liverpool goalie, Jerzy Dudek.

That match, for AC Milan manager on the night, Carlo Ancelotti, left a sour taste in his mouth that he still recalls to the current day.

Flash forward to present day, Manchester City hold the superior advantage over a Milan side at Istanbul, which was far off what was the 2005 final, should another historic final be expected on the night?

Will the underdogs, Inter Milan pull out a shocker to leave Istanbul the glorious city for all underdogs? Or will Pep Guardiola ultimately come out on top after losing the 2021 final to Chelsea and falling short of the 2022 final to Real Madrid?

It remains to be seen.
