Cesc Fabregas Reveals How His Move To Chelsea Happened

Former Arsenal captain, Cesc Fabregas, has revealed that the club’s former manager, Arsene Wenger, refused to re-sign him before he joined Chelsea in 2014 because he was “hurt” by Fabregas’ decision to quit Arsenal in 2011.

Cesc Fabregas was a crucial player for Wenger during his time at Arsenal, but in 2011, after spending eight years at the North London club, the Spaniard decided to leave and join Barcelona.

In a recent interview on the Kammy and Ben’s Proper Football Podcast, Fabregas said that when he left Barcelona and his contract was up, he and his team approached Arsenal as part of an agreement in the contract with Barcelona that gave Arsenal first option.

“We said, ‘Listen, I am leaving Barcelona and by law, you have a week to decide if you want to take me back or not,'” Fabregas explained.

He said Arsenal had a week to respond, but after the deadline passed, he called Wenger, who said they already had a lot of players in Fabregas’ position like Mesut Ozil, Santi Cazorla, Jack Wilshere, and Aaron Ramsey.

“He said to fit me in, he would have to play someone out, and this could create, you know,” Fabregas said.

He also speculated that Wenger was hurt by the way he left Arsenal and everything that happened at the time.

Fabregas joined Chelsea in 2014 and won two Premier League titles during his time there. However, he has always maintained his love for Arsenal and the fans, despite leaving the club in 2011.

“For a week, I could not talk to anyone (else). We noticed Arsenal, Arsene, everyone, so after a week, we called Arsene and he said he would think about it and he said they already had a lot of players in my position like Mesut Ozil… Cazorla, Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey and he said to fit me in, he would have to play someone out and this could create, you know.” Cesc Fabregas was quoted as saying.

He also added that Arsene Wenger may have been hurt by the way he left the club.

“I think also he was a little bit hurt… by how I left and everything.”
