“Cannot believe he’s gone” — Arsenal icon slams Chelsea
Arsenal legend, Paul Merson slams the decision by London rivals, Chelsea for letting go of their manager, Mauricio Pochettino on Tuesday.
Reports emerged on Tuesday evening that the West-London side had amicably parted ways with its head coach, just days after the conclusion of the 2023/24 premier league campaign. In a move that didn’t come that much as a shocking one, but rather surprising, Paul Merson believes it is a mistake by Chelsea to let go of Pochettino.
In a video posted on X, Paul Merson condemned Chelsea’s decision to part ways with the Argentine, insisting that it was a wrong move shortly after Pochettino had the players playing well.
Merson in the video was captured saying;
“Just seen the news about Pochettino. Cannot believe he’s gone. Cannot believe. I mean, whoever’s making this decision is – I, I just – how are you going to replace the manager?
“Like he just got the team going. Went on a great run. Getting to Europe, got into seventh in the league from where [corrects himself] sixth in the league from where they were, you know, and he’s just got his team playing. It’s madness. I cannot believe what I’m hearing,”
Chelsea is on the lookout for a replacement for Pochettino, with interesting names on the list such as a return for Thomas Tuchel, Hansi Flick being another name mentioned. However, the Blues are believed to be gunning for a young manager to take the reins at the club.
Though nothing has been reported about the reason for the mutual decision to part ways, rumor has it that the former Paris Saint-Germain boss insisted on having more influence in sporting decisions at the club which Chelsea allegedly declined to grant.
