CAF hands Super Eagles free win! Libya punished

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) reaches its verdict after investigations into the controversy that came from the Super Eagles of Nigeria travelling to face off Libya.

According to confirmed reports, the football body has awarded Nigeria’s Super Eagles a vital three points and three goals following Libya’s botched appearance in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

The ruling solidifies Nigeria’s position at the top of their group with 10 points, leaving them a draw away from securing their place in the upcoming AFCON, set to be hosted by Morocco in December 2025.

Super Eagles skipper, William Troost-Ekong following the verdict, took to his Twitter profile to announce and praise CAF’s decision which now means Nigeria is closer to the 2025 AFCON than they were before.

The forfeiture hasn’t only boosted Nigeria’s standing but has also struck a financial blow to the Libyan Football Federation, which faces a hefty $50,000 fine, payable within the next 60 days. For Libya, this ruling leaves them at the bottom of the group with just one point, casting shadows on their AFCON hopes.

Next month’s showdown against Benin in Abidjan now holds the key to Nigeria’s official qualification, and with the team’s current advantage, fans are optimistic about seeing the Super Eagles soar in Morocco.
