How To Build A Successful Business Brand

Published

on

Building a business brand is just as important as starting a new business. Branding isn’t something that is done overnight, it is as a result of sticking to a particular practice overtime without derailing. The benefits of branding are enormous and can’t be overemphasized. Not only does your brand define how the outside world view your business, it helps to better connect to your target market.

Branding can be called a business identity cause it is a way of making the core values of the business known to you, your team and customers at large. In this article, I am going to discuss effective ways that you can use to create a successful business brand, even here in Nigeria or anywhere in the world.

1. GOOD BUSINESS NAME AND LOGO

The first step in creating a brand for your business is to make sure your business name and logo can be branded. Your business name should not be too long nor should your logo be cluttered with colours totally irrelevant to your business.

Make sure your business name is short and memorable. Your logo on the other hand should be as simple and clean as possible. TakeFacebook and Apple as an example. I have come across lots of business logos that are heavily designed and totally unattractive. You don’t need to paint a rainbow before your logo can be beautiful.

2. IDENTIFY YOUR TARGET MARKET

Another measure that will help create that successful business brand is to know your target market. For example, EntMirror is targeting both established and prospective entrepreneurs here in Nigeria. Anyone looking for a way to make money and be self reliant is a potential audience.

Your target market will determine the name of your business, logo and business structure. If your business is going to deal with children’s toys, it’s likely that your business name will go with something similar like “Kiddish” “Kidszone” “kiddieworld” “toyme” etc. Your business logo on the other hand can be cartoonish with bright colour scheme. All this is what will attract your target market to your business.

3. TRY TO BE UNIQUE

This is where many people get it wrong. There are many brands out there fighting for the same spot in the marketplace. The competition is intense and believe me, it’s getting tougher by the day. What will help you rise quickly and also, help you make a name for yourself is when you do something different, something unique. Try and do something your competitors haven’t done before. It will be an edge that will help you rise.

I have seen lots of businesses that set out, trying to be like a business they admire or envy. Most online businesses are guilty of this. Failure is when you try to mimick another business brand thinking it will help you grow. Reverse is usually the case.

4. DEFINE YOUR BUSINESS PERSONA

Think of your business as a person who have feelings and belongs to a particular class. What kind of person would it be? Which class will it belong to? How would the tone of voice be? Most businesses that specialise on children’s wears, toys etc usually put on the persona ofTom and Jerry. A business consultant firm might take the persona of a successful business tycoon.

Building a business persona doesn’t happen overnight, it’s something that gradually take shape as you work on it. At the initial stage, your business persona might be blurry, you might find it hard to discover that perfect pitch. But as you keep going, it starts to take shape.

5. DELIVER VALUE

No matter how pleasant your business name sounds ; or how beautiful your logo looks, if you can’t deliver value to your target market, then you can’t build that successful brand you are craving for.

An awesome business name, a simple and professional looking logo and a good colour scheme can set you on the path to success. But your content, that’s your product and service is what will ensure if success will be reached or not.

6. BE CONSISTENT

To build that brand, whether offline or online entails being consistent in what you do. You’ll not build a successful brand by constantly changing your business name or logo. You can’t build a brand if all you do is change your business colour template or scheme.

The secret to building that lasting business brand is to stick to want you’re doing. You’re allowed to change a feature or design of you discover they don’t fit, but it’s no longer healthy if you do that often. Keep doing what you do and you will end up having a brand that’s respected in the market sphere.

Creating a business brand is not a day job and also, shouldn’t be overlooked if you run a business, whether online or offline. Your brand is what helps your customers to further identify your business or product in the mist of others. It won’t happen in a day, but it will take you a day to take a step.
